The Greatfellas is a student commercial shot entirely on 16mm Kodak film for entry to the NAHEMI / Kodak student commercial awards. The commercial focuses on a young boy who delivers 'McVities' to his neighbourhood in a very British parody of ‘Goodfellas’ - bringing the community together with his routine biscuit run

While the Mcvities brief was quite broad in what it wanted from the commercial, it contained some key points that we knew we had to focus on - as the producer, I knew I could really push the team towards hitting these key aspects of the brief. The brief stated that the brand is all about two things, “Deliciousness & Sharing Connections” all encapsulated by the idea of subverting the traditional chocolate ad in favour of something that brought us all together.

Our interpretation of this was to create a commercial that held and presented very British values, all based around our love for a cup of tea and a pack of biscuits. For me, this meant finding locations that felt very conventionally British and instantly familiar to the audience alongside my production designer, casting consciously in regards to age, race, ethnicity and gender in order to create the idea of inclusivity/togetherness, and ultimately a sense of British nostalgia when all of these are combined with the visual strategy.
